Obama And Atty. Gen. Lynch Pushing Anti-Gun Measures Even Before Names Of All Victims Released

Posted by Peter Reid on

President Obama renewed his push for unconstitutional gun control Friday morning following the Dallas police shooting that killed five police officers and injured seven more. He renewed his push even before all the victims’ names were released which many are calling shameless and disrespectful towards the families and friends of the victims.

Obama condemned the “senseless” murder of the five police officers killed in the shooting, calling the act “despicable.”

“There has been a vicious, despicable, and calculated attack on law enforcement,” Obama said, speaking at a Nato Summit in Poland. “Police were doing their jobs, keeping people safe during a protest.”

“Today is a wrenching reminder of the sacrifices that they make for us,” Obama said.

Obama renewed his push for gun control measures saying that the shooting highlights a need for a new debate leading to legislation.

“We also know that when people are armed with powerful weapons, unfortunately it makes attacks like these more deadly and more tragic, and in the days ahead we’re going to have to consider those realities as well,” Obama said.

Attorney General Loretta Lynch spoke today on the Dallas shootings saying “violence is never the answer.” “Do not let this week precipitate a new normal in this country,” Lynch added.

She also spoke on gun control. “We must take a hard look at the ease with which wrongdoers can get their hands on deadly weapons and the frequency with which they use them,” Lynch said.

The Congressional Black Caucus spoke today on gun violence asking for legislation on gun control. “We need legislation now,” Chairman G.K Butterfield said. “If we fail to act, this will be a long hot summer,” Butterfield added.

A string of gun control measures have recently failed in Congress, particularly the measure regarding people on terror watch lists.
